Know how things are made

Our Story

Código Materia was founded by Martino Degasperi and Rocio Sagastegui. Martino trained as an architectural engineer at Politecnico di Milano and Rocio as an architect at Universidad de Monterrey. Both pursued a Master in Advanced Architecture at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia where Barcelona became the place where their paths converged.

Before founding Código Materia, they worked across Europe and Saudi Arabia on luxury residential and retail projects, developing a precision for material detail and spatial quality that now drives everything they make.

The studio was born from a specific problem: the gap between the algorithmic design tools architects use daily and the objects that end up in the spaces they design. Código Materia closes that gap — taking the same computational methods used to design a building façade and applying them at the scale of an object you can hold.

Every piece starts as code. It ends as fired ceramic, hand glazed in Barcelona.

Process

We use parametric and generative design tools to develop forms that are geometrically impossible to produce by hand. The printer deposits clay layer by layer, leaving traces of its logic visible on the surface. After printing, each piece is sanded and glazed by hand a step that gives every object its final, unrepeatable character.

The result is work that is simultaneously precise and imperfect: the machine’s grammar, the maker’s hand.

Meet the team

Rocio Sagastegui – Co Founder

Architect with a degree from Universidad de Monterrey and a Master in Advanced Architecture from IAAC Barcelona. Extensive experience in luxury residential and high-end retail projects across Europe and Latin America, developing a precise eye for material quality and spatial detail that defines the studio’s aesthetic direction.

Martino Degasperi — Co-founder

Architectural engineer from Politecnico di Milano, Master in Advanced Architecture from IAAC Barcelona. Extensive experience leading computational design teams, specialising in parametric workflows and digital fabrication. He takes the craft knowledge and translates it into code  the brain behind every fabrication decision at Código Materia.

Let's connect

Some helpful information before you reach out

Do we accept commission projects?

Yes. Our studio works with clients from a range of disciplines — from architects and curators to individuals seeking a single piece. If your project aligns with our materials and process, we’re happy to collaborate.

Can you get a cost estimate?

Of course. Please email us your project details (scale, purpose, any files or inspiration), and we’ll provide an estimate tailored to your request.

Do we custom design something from scratch?

Yes. If you don’t have a finished file or concept, our design team can guide the process — from ideation to fabrication. Just reach out with your ideas.
