Returns & Refunds
At Código Materia, each piece is made by hand in small batches in our Barcelona studio. Please review your order carefully before purchasing. The terms below set out your rights and our process.
Right to cancel (EU 14-day withdrawal)
If you're a consumer in the European Union, you have 14 calendar days from the day you receive your order to withdraw, for any reason and without justification. To exercise this right, email us at studio@codigomateria.com with your order number before the 14 days expire. We'll confirm receipt of your request and send you instructions on how to return the item.
Effects of withdrawal
- You must return the item within 14 days of telling us, in its original packaging and in perfect condition.
- Return shipping for a change of mind is paid by the customer.
- As our pieces are fragile, we recommend returning them carefully packed and via a tracked, insured service. We're not responsible for items damaged on their way back to us.
- We'll refund the price of the item, including the original standard delivery cost, within 14 calendar days of receiving the item back (or your proof of return, whichever comes first), using the same payment method you used to order.
- We may withhold the refund until we've received the item or proof of its return. If the item shows any loss of value due to handling beyond what's necessary to check its nature and characteristics, we may reduce the refund accordingly.
Custom & made-to-order pieces
Pieces that are custom-made or produced to specifications other than our standard options (special sizes, finishes, or colours) cannot be returned or refunded for change of mind, in line with EU law, which exempts custom and personalised goods from the 14-day withdrawal right. The only exception is if the piece arrives damaged or faulty (see below).
Damaged or faulty items
Please inspect your order as soon as it arrives. If your piece arrives damaged or faulty, email us at studio@codigomateria.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and clear photographs of the damage and the packaging. We'll arrange a replacement or refund at no cost to you — in these cases, return shipping is paid by Código Materia.
2-year guarantee
In addition to your withdrawal right, as an EU consumer you have a two-year legal guarantee from delivery covering repair or replacement of items that are faulty or not as described. This does not cover damage caused by knocks, misuse, improper handling, or normal wear. To make a claim, email studio@codigomateria.com with your order number, a description of the problem, and photographs. Repair or replacement is free of charge and carried out within a reasonable time.
Refunds
We'll let you know once we've received and inspected your return, and whether the refund is approved. If approved, it's issued to your original payment method. Please note your bank or card provider may take a few business days to process and show the funds.
Exchanges
The fastest way to get what you want is to return the item you have and, once the return is accepted, place a separate order for the new piece.
Our liability
Código Materia is not liable for losses not attributable to a breach on our part, or for indirect or consequential losses that were not reasonably foreseeable by both parties when the order was placed. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
Applicable law
These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you're a consumer resident in the EU, you also benefit from any mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence. The European Commission provides an online dispute resolution platform: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/
